Photographer's Note

This is the Town Hall of Mindelo, So Vicente Island, Cape Verde. It is an old colonial building; on top of the faade there is still the Portuguese coat of arms (see workshop).
This building is seen also on my post Shoe shiners in Mindelo. You can see their stand again at right of the different POV in other workshop.
Yesterday, May 18, there were elections for the municipal (local) governments in Cape Verde. The Mayor of Mindelo/So Vicente Island, who has her office in this building, was re-elected. She's Ms Isaura Gomes, better known as Zau.
Cape Verde is one of the most successful democracies in Africa, and for sure the best in all former Portuguese colonies. The independence was proclaimed peacefully in 1975. In 1990 there was another peaceful and orderly transition for the multi-party system.
