Great Glint 2008-07-28 14:50

hello Bev,
good idea of yours to record these old mills before they disappear. My mother was a mill girl and visiting her at her place of work as a child I found the noise and clatter of machinery terrifying. The mill girls had to work hard for their money so their demise is not something I particularly bemoan.
As for your photo, you have captured a nice light with the relections adding a picturesque quality. it looks quamit and cute rather than dark and satanic!

Default To Glint: Beside Running Water

We do love the nostalia of the mills!
My aunts were both weavers and, as you say, the noise in the weaving shed was horrendous! There was, however, a great sense of camaraderie which made everything bearable.

Where abouts in Lancashire did you used to live?
Around N.E. Lancs most of the weaving sheds have gone! As have the mill chimneys.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
