Great Docarmo 2007-07-11 8:50

Hi DrJ,
Very nice shot, with this road well placed in the composition and the typical fruit. I also can see a cross (here in Quebec, there are also crosses near the roads).
This plant is very, very common in Brazil... it grows everywhere, and it is very appreciated by everybody. In Brazil, the popular name is chuchu.
Here in Canada, they know other species of Curcubitaceae (like pumpkins, and cucumbers), but not this one. We found it only in special markets selling imported vegetables (not always found).
This image brings nice tasting souvenirs to me :-)
Thanks for sharing,
Maria do Carmo

Default Re: grocery

Still me...
When I went to the grocery today, I didn't believe my eyes. There were many "chuchus" there! Just because I had said to you that it was difficult to find them here. But they were imported, obviously, and the price was impracticable. Well, for me! Because in Brazil we used to buy it really not expensive, when we didn't have on the backyard.
These ones I saw at the grocery cost $1.49 for two small ones! Of course, I did not buy them.
I prefer looking at yours on the photo...

Default Re: Dollar is too much for us

Dear Maria,
$1.49 dollar is equivalent o about Rupees 65/- (Sixty five) in India.
In India it is available at a price of Rs. 05/- at Darjeeling or Pedong and Rs. 20/- at Calcutta.
