hello Alessandro,
you ask why I upload this image and I will try to answer. Sometimes technical excellence is not all that matters. However, i wish it was sharper but it is not. Does that mean I cannot show it? When I go there again next summer I hope to take sharper pictures as I have learned a few things since June. I like this image because it tells us something about the people and annual event that is Appleby Horse fair. These women have come to the small town to enjoy the Fair night drinking and socialising. They have their own particular style, not usual for a small quiet town. The two women in white have long, sparkly dresses and have been careful to "dress up" for this night. They are standing outside a pub. It is I think, uniquely British, even English.Perhaps you have to understand something of English class nuance to understand what I mean. Gypsy people and traveller people meet at Appleby and colonize the small town for a period of almost two weeks each June. They park their caravans on a hill called Fair Hill as this hill has been traditionally a meeting place for the horse fair for a long time. There is a special and exciting atmosphere. Horses are traded. Usually the horses are gypsy cobs and these beautifully marked ponies can sell for thousands of pounds. But these are traded between gypsy and traveller people. The atmosphere is kind of wild as people meet up for the first time in a year. Check out my pictures here and on treklens to get a sense of what I mean.
best wishes
Bev
