Great plimrn 2006-08-23 20:22

Boa Tarde,
You've captured this woman's intense commitment to her cause well.
Regards, Pat

Default To plimrn: intense commitment

Bom dia cara amiga,
(Good-morning dear friend)
That's an attitude that I noticed often in the Americans, intense commitment, whatever their causes.
The Portuguese attitude is more relaxed; a possible dialogue:
- May we do something to save the whales?
- Perhaps.
- What can we do?
- I don't know.
- Let's think about it.
- OK, tomorrow we'll see.
(or next week, or next year, or never).
The same dialogue between two Americans:
- We must do something to save the whales!
- Yes, for sure!
- What will we do?
- We can make a presentation during Earth Day.
- Let's prepare it.
- OK, this evening I'll do some research.

There are good things and bad things about such an attitude, but I suspect you've captured an essential 'Americaness'
