I would like to know at what time of the day this picture was taken because it amazes me how the sky is not dark but with dark blues and even magenta colours. The picture is a very good one, and even better with the aurora refelcted on the water --that is a great idea to bring more drama to the image.

To jurgen: time of day
Hi Jurgen.
The photo was taken at 9.52PM and it was dark at the time. The background light comes from the moonlight, and is a result of the long exposure time. I did have problems with focusing due to the darkness. Looking out over the sea I couldn't see the mountain nearly as clear as it comes out in the photo. The circumstances were similar when I took this aurora photo in north Iceland, but then the moon was full. /Fredrik
