Great PaulVDV 2021-06-02 10:53

Hello Ike,
Impressive picture of the monastery.
Beautiful architecture in an unimaginably rough environment.
I also like the photos in the WS, especially the second one.
Can anyone visit these monasteries?
Was it also possible to enter such a laura? Presumably they want to respect the privacy of those who live there.
Best regards, Paul

Exclamation To PaulVDV: Monastery visits

Hello Paul,
Some monasteries do not allow visitors, Mar-Saba is the most stringent, not allow women at all, and men can visit only on Wednsdays.
The Deir-Hajla monastery for example, enable us to visit.
The lauras are out of question - those are placed in a most dangerous cliff or caves to reach, I would not try such an advanture.
Thnaks.
Looking forward to your next picture for filing a critique.
Good evening,
Ike

Thank you for the explanation, Ike!

Only on Wednesdays one monastery can be visited. You have to be lucky enough for this to fit into an itinerary. Women are even less fortunate...
I understand your explanation about the lauras. Otherwise it seemed like a real challenge ...

Kind regards,
Paul
