Hello Tonny,
It's good to see this photograph of the Castillo, especially since I was there twice in the 70s, and will visit again next month. Set against a deep blue sky, the temple looks fabulous. I had heard about the structure being closed to tourists since an accident (an American tourist), but you clarified some questions for me, including the date. A minor correction, there are actually 91 steps on each side, adding up to 364, and one step at the top, completing the 365 days. Thanks for letting us see the place vicariously,
Bulent

yes, I think you're right. This pyramid has 91 steps and one on top to symbolize the days of the year.
I had a book about the Maya-ruins, in which there were also pyramids built with 90 steps and five on top. I think these were in Uxmal, but since I lost the book, I got confused about the numbers. Well, their calendars were already confusing enough... Thanks for the remark, Tonny |
