Great jean113 2020-08-23 4:10

hello Jorge, it is good to see the whole cathedral now, so we can view all the reliefs in context to the building.
It seems to have had a hard life, but looks in excellent condition today.
It looks quite small for my idea of a cathedral. Did you manage to go inside?
I like your slightly elevated point of view.
Kind regards, Jean.

Default To jean113: cathedral

in russian orthodox church the sense of cathedral is different from catholic or anglican meaning. some cities have many cathedrals , one near the other, while we have only a cathedral in each town.. in some aspects for them it is like a church with a more pompous title.
yes, I entered inside, it is very poor, few pieces of frescoes survived and you can see an icon of saint dmitri and the original cross of the roof. it is even very small, like most of orthodox churches, filled with many columns and few space.
in the next post I will show the real cathedral of the city in an internal view and you will have an idea how small and filled with narrow spaces these churches are.

take care
