Hello Finlay,
What a co-incidence - we were staying in this area at the same time as you (a farm near Rievaulx Abbey). Indeed we drove through Hovingham a couple of times. The villages in this area are charming and you have captured the village church wonderfully. The red poppy wreath stands out well against the old stonework. I also like the way that the trees frame the church. Lovely sharp detail - very well done.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Ann,
Interesting to read that you were in this area at the same time. We were staying on a caravan site (we have a touring caravan) in the village of Slingsby, which is only a few miles on from Hovingham on the road to Malton. We visited Helmsley a couple of times and had a lovely walk from there to Rievaulx. We may well have passed close to the farm you were stayin at. Over the years we have had a few holidays in this area, being drawn back by the picturesque country villages and the seaside towns on the Yorkshire coast ..... and of course the wonderful city of York itself. Hope you too enjoyed your break. Regards Finlay |
