Hi Denis. We have no covered bridges here in NZ, what is the reason for covering the bridges?

To bakes888: what is the reason for covering the bridges?

Hello Paul!
The reason is to protect the surface of the bridge from the ice,snow and rain. The wood is a very slippery surface. It protects it from rot also.

I see now, the bridges over here are all covered in tar seal the same as the roads. Thanks for your reply.
