This type of popular singing with strong accents from the formerly Lao migrants who settled on the Issan plateau, North-East Thailand, is called Luk Thung, and is a mix of the indigenous Molam style singing and modern pop music, deserves better international recognition, as the skills the singer must have are truly of an unique style.
In many ways, my favored accoutrement is that of the young woman on the right, which examplifies so much the seduction operated by western style clothes on thais, and yet, often designed, and worn as it is in Thailand, thai youth make it all their own.
Because of that, mixed to the traditional, this picture contains much references to cultural life in Thailand nowadays.

Now the critique: within your TE collection of U-bein photos, this one would profit for a tight cropping (under the hands), less bridge (we can see it in other photos) and focussing on some of the nice specifics of the scene, like the parallelism of the brown folded draperies, the hand-holding, which here is so in harmony with the scene, but barely noticeable.

A slight timing change might have allowed to either get the one of the left reciprocate your attention like the others, or illustrate her shyness better. Here, she is just looking down.

If impossible to take the 4th one out behind during the shoot, I would edit her out, filling in with foliage instead. Perfect example of shot that needs a few frames and a little attention to detail, to become more than the souvenir of a nice moment.

PS: fun is over. Teacher is coming over soon. Not a minute too soon! :-)

They are laughing after releasing you from a day at sea, tied to the top of the mast, upside down, hanging by you know what! Proof is, your dunce cap is still on top of the torture ladder.

very interesting and striking composition. The darker hues of his boots really set him firm inside the vertical frame, and the orange metalwork has been perspicaciously set as a counterpoint to his own limbs.

Indeed, Pirate of the Samaeans, if not the Caribbeans, and from a photographer of the canadeans!

Beau point de vue en plongee, efficace et superbement ponctue par tous ces visages qui attendent que ca se passe, afin d' etre enfin a la maison apres une dure journee de travail.

PS: En Thailande, leurs mains en cache soleil reveleraient autant de conversations cell-ephoniques!

Always fabulous moments where a festive atmosphere is tempered by respect to one's beliefs (and vice-versa!), even when the robes are worn by little novices. Maybe a bit of hue saturation on this colored scene could help bring it out even more.

Nice framing, if a bit tilted. I like that the ladies visiting are muslims, as it shows tolerance and curiosity for another religion, something the thais are accustomed too, despite the unrest of the last decade in the region..

Very uncongruous presence from the train, the tele range makes it closer and even more imposing, while we shudder at how close the marchant's wares are to the railroad. Another nice and unexpected corner of "amazing" Thailand.

It is not a bad framing, even though the colors are not too enlivened. It would have been nice to reciprocate more than a glance, maybe one of the famous thai smiles maybe!

You made your point very well. this stretch of elevated highways almost looks like a concrete locust having just landed above the traffic. A definite spoiler for any idea of the exotic east!
(the picture is taken across from MBK shopping mall, and also the new center for modern Arts (with the knocked down mega trash can).

A rich frame, the fishermen are nicely disposed in the composition, and their positions add rythm and depth to the scene. The yellow baskets provide a nice break to the mainly blue hue from boats and sky. The young man standing provides just enough action to liven up the image, and his place in the frame is in perfect counterpoint of that of the other workers. Nice job, Steve, I keep looking at it.

PS: very nice, you caught a stance, not just a portrait, maybe a tighter crop avoiding the right arm leaving the frame would be appropriate.

Bon, j' au cru dans la taille pouce de la photo, qu' il fallait lire "f... me!". J' espere que personne a la Marche des Fiertes se sera gourre comme moi, parce que il serait preferable qu' on ne lui brise rien d' autre que le coeur...
