Photographer's Note

I was eager to see one of the most famous windmill places in the Netherlands, in the village of Kinderdijk near Rotterdam.

From wikipedia: "Kinderdijk is in a polder at the confluence of the rivers Lek and Noord. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands." It's also on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites.

If you plan to go there from Rotterdam, I suggest you do not take the boat excursion: the river has ugly modern architecture along the shores almost until you get to Kinderdijk, then you only have 1 hour to visit the place and the boat leaves again. Much better (anc I think cheaper) is to take the bus from Rotterdam, and stay as long as you want!

Unluckily I didn't hear this type of advice so I went by boat, and the weather was not that great on that day. But the peaceful atmosphere was fantastic anyway.
