Photographer's Note

I don’t think there’s anything I can say about the Taj Mahal that hasn't already been said! Nor can I show this monument of love in a way it has already not been shown!! It’s almost impossible but well worth a try :-)

Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj was completed in 1659 after 22 years of work by 20,000 artisans. The postcard picture of Taj Mahal does not adequately convey the legend, the poetry and the romance that shroud what Rabindranath Tagore described "a teardrop on the cheek of time". The English poet, Sir Edwin Arnold described it as "Not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones."

I admit this is not exactly a novel depiction of the Taj…but it’s not very common either, IMHO! Tried framing the reflection of the dome of the Taj, bathed in evening light, with a couple (out of 40,000) of visitors who had decided to visit the monument of love that day!
