Not so far from the Canary islands, and from the marvellous coasts of Senegal, lays the lovely archipelago of Cabo Verde…a land of music, poetry and, as an old local song says, of saudade, which in Portuguese stays for melancholy.

Cabo Verde is an unconventional place: its landscapes remind of an unspoiled planet more than a tropical archipelago as, except for the island of Sto Antao, it is just a desert archiplelago lost in the middle of the Atlantic, with sand, rocks and volcanoes.

Cap-Vert, Barlaventos by Fanny Ab (317) 2004-02-25 - 2004-03-10

Chaque ξle du Cap-Vert, archipel perdu au large du Sιnιgal, est un petit monde en soi. Durant deux trop courtes semaines, j'ai eu l'occasion de dιcouvrir les Barlaventos, ou les ξles au vent - Sal, Sao Vicente, Santo Antao, Santa Luzia, Sao Nicolao et Boavista. La population issue d'un mιtissage entre Africains et Portugais a crιι une culture unique, loin de l'Europe mais pas vraiment africaine non plus.
