Xanthi is a city of Thrace, the capital of the prefecture. Built at the foot of the Rhodope Mountains, at the beginning of the plain which stretches to the south to the Aegean Sea.
In the region of Xanthi produced the famed throughout the world, flavored tobacco Basmas. Formerly called the "lady" because of the wealth made by the tobacco trade and thus became known all over the world and gained great prestige and reputation.
