Photographer's Note

Bento Gonηalves is a small city around 150 Km far from Canela, where we stayed during last vacations. From Canela, one can make an one-day-trip to this place, well known all over our country by its wine production. I bet that the best brazilian wines comes from dozens of producers from this city. The South of Brazil received lots of immigrants, mainly from Italy, German and Poland. Bento Gonηalves received mostly italians.

We visited the grape fields and some wine producers. But another attraction here is a 90 minute journey in this old train, powered by a steam machine. And, yes, we went on this travel to go back in time!

This shot was taken at the train station in Bento Gonηalves. I really wanted to shoot at the steam machine alone, but, hey, there were hordes of tourists around it since it stoped here. When the place became somewhat empty, this couple apeared dressed like italian immigrants, to make an old photo with a professional photographer, as a souvenir (see the "making of" that I post as a workshop...). Well, I shot also! Hummm... maybe I can earn some money!

Converted to BW, crop, and clone out the front of the tourist bus you see in the "making of" photo.
