Photographer's Note

I went a Cambodian village Malai for Xmas day. It's on the Thai border and is completely surrounded by thousands and thousands of mines. Half of the men that we met in the village were amputees. My tour guide was Akira, the founder of the land mine museum in Siam Reap. We went into the jungle and watched him find and remove some mines. In 90 minutes they safely dug up 15 mines. The NGOs have robots and body armor the local people are forced to do it with just a machete and shovel.

There are an estimated 6 million mines still in the ground in Cambodia.
