Photographer's Note

This one is just a little bit of fun!

In August I was with a friend at the wonderful Eskrigg Nature Reserve near Lockerbie trying to capture some photographs of some native British red squirrels. Unfortunately red squirrels are becoming more scarce nowadays as increasing numbers of the more aggressive grey squirrels compete with them for food and the grey squirrels also carry the disease squirrelpox which can prove fatal to red squirrels though grey squirrels appear immune to it.

Anyway, as I was lining up a shot of this little red squirrel, we were interrupted by a large pigeon which landed on a nearby tree stump. And it appeared that the squirrel was also annoyed by this unwelcome impostor!

ISO 1600, f/5.6 at 1/400 sec, focal length 400mm.
