Photographer's Note

The photo shows the beautifully decorated refectory of the orthodox monastery of Cernica, Romania. It has been carefully prepared for the Sunday lunch.

Cernica monastery is situated 20 km from Bucharest and is an important pilgrimage place.
The monastery was founded in 1608 by Cernica Stirbey, great justiciar of Rulers Michael the Brave and Radu
Serban. The establishment is situated on two isles taking their names from the churches built on them dedicated to Saint Nicholas and Saint George.
The monastery was founded on isle Saint George, its church and a few houses standing until the end of the
18th century. The present church was erected in 1815.
At Cernica there was once a school of painting and copyists. Numerous personalities of the Romanian culture (writer Gala Galaction, poet Tudor Arghezi, painter Ion Tuculescu and others) lived here, had close ties with the monastery and now rest unto eternity in the cemetery of the monastery.

Hello Paul,
A very impressive and interesting building. Although so richly decorated with paintings, the architecture is rather plain and clean, which I find very appealing. The long tables have provided you with the opportunity to make a nice symmetric composition.

Hi Paul,
Like my latest photo this is full of dark colours but at least there is a bit more colour in the frescoes making a fascinating place. Pity about them using plastic water bottles.

nice interior shot with beautiful pinting on the walls. Good symetric composition and natural colors. I like your idea of keeping it as it really was. Someone would probably have done it as an HDR image but you kept it real. That's what I like.

Hello Paul!
This is a beautiful hall. People do not believe that in Romania there are such beautiful things. That said, I've never been there. Unfortunately, in politics, you make it a little difficult for these visits. Of course, not on paper, but the political contradictions of the people do not like to travel there.
It is very sympathetic to the old environment, the tables are reimbursed, and the modern symbol of the plastic water bottles for the opposite :-)
The central structure is here for, so the picture is very expressive one.

This is a really interesting and beautiful image, Paul.It is bright and sharp and shows of the interior very well. Your PoV, at dead centre is just right to bring out the perspective. The richness of the decouration is shown well. I would love to know a bit more about the monastry today. How amny monks, whhat work they do etc. I must look it up on the internet.Regards kevin
