Tarn river boatmen village, la Malne

One sight.
Other sight.

The village is the starting point of one strolls in boat of 8 kilometers in the "GORGES du TARN", Tarn canyon, which reach and exceed with four kimometers downstream, the famous straits, which are a narrowed passage of the TARN river between impressive limestone cliffs.

The boat was since the 14th century the principal means to move in the "Gorges du Tarn".
This navigation taken of rise with the construction of the railway line of Paris with Bziers, which brought at the end of the 19th century the first tourists.
Creation in 1905 of the road of the bottom of the canyon marked the end of the traditional shipping, which is useful now only for tourism.

_"GORGES du TARN" is a canyon of 53 kilometers, dug by the Tarn river between the "Causse Mjean" and the "Causse de Sauveterre", extends from Quzac to Rozier. The Tarn river passes from calms in rapids between the rock faces which reach sometimes 500 m, cut in the layers of limestone which reach 650 m and up to 1,500 m per place.

_Le TARN river, takes its source to approximately 1600 m of altitude, north of hamlet of the Hospital, not far from the peak Cassini, on the slopes of "Mont-Lozre", the territory of the commune of le Pont-de-Montvert, and is thrown after 380 km of course in the Garonne close to Castelsarrasin.

Malne is a french commune, located in the department of Lozre of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 171 Malnais in 1999, distributed out of 41 km, that is to say 4 hab./km.

One finds in Malne the manor of Montesquiou of the 15th 16th centuries, and a Romanesque church of the 12th century.

One also finds with the top of the village, the "Castel Merlet", Merlet manor house, foundations of a ruined castle dating from the 6th century, and which would be the oldest castle of France.
