Photographer's Note
Inspired by all the beautiful shots from many great photographers and friends here on TE, I’m posting this scanned image from my trip to Myanmar 9-10 years ago.
When I arrived Bagan in the afternoon, it was raining so hard I could barely see anything beyond a few yards, so on the next morning while it was still cloudy but no rain I couldn’t wait to get out there trying to see as much as possible in case it started raining again. On our way, we encountered this little novice on his way to the temple. He is very shy, yet very eager to meet and practice his English. He smiled and said “Hello” “What is your name?” and “Where are you from?” just a few basic words and no more. I wanted to take his photo as he walked away. He must know that I would try to photograph him. He turned around to look back and gave me the knowing but most natural smile. He is such a sweet little guy, and it was such an enchanting encounter.
Bagan, also spelled Pagan, on the banks of the Ayerwaddy River, is home to the largest area of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world – many dating to the 11th and 12th centuries. The shape and construction of each building is highly significant in Buddhism with each component part taking on spiritual meaning.

Hello Way, nice composition which is very typical to this geography. The position of your red-dressed little model on the way to the Budhist Tempel is very well-chosen. I would prefer a bluer sky but that's not so important. Nice memory from 9 years go.

Mingalaba Way!
Thanks for scanning and posting this good shot from Bagan.
That`s That Byin Nyu temple, the highest building there with 201 feet (64 meters).Great POV and I like the composition with the novice looking back at you.
I have only two more weeks of vacation left for this year, but I`m thinking of going there again in december.
As I wrote in some of my notes:I΄ve never met so friendly and unspoiled people......

Hi Way,
That's a sweet story, and his deep red robe constrats so nicely with the surrounding green landscape making him stand out. He also gives good scale to the image. The temple looks amazing too, it must be great from closer up too. Nice!

Hello Way ,
A great shot , indeed ! Of course , the architecture is oustanding . But your composition is superb , and the little monk is the bonus . The "extra" bonus is the fact that he looks back and smiles , as you write in your note .
And the quality of the scan is quite good .
Best regards

hello Way,
I like a lot the light here, it feels both soft and shimmering at the same time, coming from all directions, so no dark shadows. the robe of the little monk is just perfect to add the colour accent, very nice. and I agree that the posture and expression of the kid feel relaxed and unhurried, I find it fits well the scene. very nice work, my compliments.
best,
Kristine

Way: I'm curious about your point of focus here - obviously the deep DOF kept everthing nicely sharp. Great contextual travel image - magazine quality here. c - the fact that it's a scan is more impressive - you've been at it for a while.

This one is so pleasnat with the young novice in the vegetationg going to the beautiful temple in the back. The path really leads us together with the monk trhough the picture. A true invitation to get to the temple. Bagan is such a great place to visit, I spent many days there during my first Myanamr trip a few year ago.

Hello Way! How nice that he gave you this smile. This is a beautiful scan indeed ... and a wonderful composition, the boy is just perfectly placed walking away from you towards this most beautiful temple. I was there too and it belongs to the most exciting places I have visited so far. Unforgettable the evenings and mornings when the fog was hanging over the earth. Very natural photo, just the way I have it in my mind. You are a great photographer, already in 2000 !!! So this is one of your early works ... :))) Warm regards, Barbara.

Hi, Way.
I read you took this picture in May 2000 and it's a scanned image... I'm amazed. At first look I thought it was a recent one, at second and third look too... the quality is simply stunning! Strong composition, most specifically the way you built it up, with the temple and that lovely little novice both off center and complementary in pulling one's attention. And those colors are simply brilliant... Love it! Have a good day, buddy. I'll be seeing you.
Fulvio.

Hi Way!
Good idea to look in your old archives:)! This photo is just great and it's always good to see photos of this fabulous site. The little monk there, looking at you, really makes the difference and he's so well placed with the temple in background. Good work with the scanner also!

Hello Way,
This little monk is the master piece to present the temple behind, in the forest. Moreover he is looking us behind his shoulder like an invitation to follow him to visite this place.
Very well composed,
Yves.

Hello Way,
This is a pefect composition. It couldn't possibly be better. The pagoda slightly off-centre, the dirt road going between the tree and the bushes, and the little novice as the jewel in the crown. The way he turns his head and casts a glance at you is just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Way,
The perfect balance you framed between the young monk and the temple shows your artistic eye; with only a moment to capture the scene, you got it just right. Then too, there is a very real feeling of that wonderful morning light; I'm impressed that you captured such delicate detail and color in the sky given the dark foreground colors.

The perspective is well created with the path. This temple, I think I've seen before in some picture in this very site. Bagan is a place I want to visit desperately sometime...let's see. The little novice, just turning round & giving you the slight & friendly smile makes a fine moment. The scan quality is excellent, I think the green are a bit saturated IMHO. But a fine picture from Bagan Way, and makes me yearn more to go there sometime!

Looking at journey back in time.. the mystical Pagan and its mesmerising and awe-inspiring landscape. This is a scene enough to trigger the senses, the viewpoint, perspective and depth you achieved are most attractive to reflect the feel in it. Extremely pleasing and somewhat serene image and the presence of the solitary human figure makes the compo even stronger with the ancient pagoda very well visible. Everything is just perfect and one can never get tire of looking at this image, the magic land that did not really change in the past thousand years. Well done shot, Conngrats.
Kind regards
