Photographer's Note

"Lua de Luanda" performance at the University of Brasilia still remains. Energical live performance. Beautiful songs. Rhythmical dances along with the music. I still remember the series of energical/powerful movements with the feet. The crowd gathered for dance as band members invited for.
The band uses two Xequerκs (Shekeres) that provide a unique sound experience.

Beautiful place. Beautiful music. Beautiful band. Beautiful people.

Some notes on Wikipedia about Xequerκ:

The shekere is a percussion instrument from Africa, consisting of a dried gourd with beads woven into a net covering the gourd. The instrument is used for folkloric as well as some of the popular music.
In Brazil, it is called a xequerκ. It consist of a gourd (cabaηa) cut in the middle and then wrapped in a net in which beads or small plastic balls are threaded. The afoxι is a similar, smaller instrument.
