Photographer's Note

Namoradeira is the name given to a type of popular sculpture in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It can be found in different sizes and materials, such as wood, ceramic, plaster or resin. They usually stay at the window sills and balconies. They seem to be looking at infinity, as if they were waiting for the man of their lives, hence the name "namoradeiras", which means something like "flirtatious".

In the photo, a specimen of namoradeira in the village of Bichinho, about 8 km away from the city of Tiradentes, but belonging to the municipality of Prados. The place is famous for the handicrafts of furniture, fabrics, embroidery, crochets, carpets, sculptures and adornments.
