Photographer's Note

I just couldn't have come back from the Andes this time without this photo! The van that drove us in a tour through this area was about to make a last stop for a late lunch in the village of Las Cuevas, the last one before the Chilean border, when our guide said we were stopping to take a photo of the condor. He said it so naturally that I didn't believe it was a real one, as a friend of mine from Mendoza had told me it was not easy to see a condor up close like that. But when I noticed it was a real one, I jumped in front of all other passengers so that I could approach it before them. And there was a lonely girl near the bird, shouting "fly, condor!", while I was just thinking "shut up and get out of here, please!" (sorry about that!), but I got there in time to take this photo of the Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) just before it flew away!
