Photographer's Note

The most important event in the Cook Islands is the annual celebration of the self-rule, granted in the 1965.
Formerly called Costitution Celebration, it was renamed in the 2001 with a Cook Islands Maori name, TE MAEVA NUI, that means "the most important celebration".

Each year performing artists, from all the islands of the Cook's Islands, gather at the National Auditorium of Avavrua, the capital of the nation on the Rarotonga Island. They present dances, songs, drum beats, and ancient and modern sports as Rugby 7 are played between the islands.
Outside the Auditorium there is a big Food Festival (...and also a beer one...).

This scanned picture was took inside te Auditorium, during a 4-5 hours dancing contest between the different teams of all the Cook Islands.

Then Rugby 7 matches and a 48 hours BBQ!
