Photographer's Note

Pancake rocks, a very familiar sight for those who have visited the South Island. These limestone rocks look like stacks of pancakes, though not very obvious in this photo. The weathering process which causes this is called stylobedding. This was after a (yet another) storm cleared, while the waves were still ferocious. The rainbow and temporary waterfalls last a few seconds, then the next wave comes, sprays a good amount of damaging saltwater on your lens and camera, and you see this sight again.
