Photographer's Note

This is a location that is a little tricky to access . It is a pleasant 30-40 minute walk from the car parking area which takes you across a headland covered in bushland, along a beach (Moonee Beach) , around another headland (Flat Rock) and then along the length of Ghosties Beach to the southern end. It is a walk through sea cave with an entrance from the beach off to the left of this mouth which opens out to the sea. It would make a spectacular spot for a sunrise shoot under the optimum tidal conditions however the drive (about 60 + minutes from where I live) followed by the time taken to walk there in the dark over tricky terrain??? Not anything I shall try any time soon. For those interested in getting there the car park is very much the south end of Catherine Hill Bay . Also take some insect repellent as mosquitoes seem to be a problem inside the cave itself. I have read that there is also a petrified forest which can sometimes be seen after a big sweep strips away the sand but this was not seen on our visit. There are plenty of rock pools and apparently it is a big spot for surfing and also scuba diving. The flat rocky platform nearby is popular with rock fisherman and sadly there have been a number of deaths in recent years where the fishermen/women have been caught unaware by the irregular swells and washed to their deaths, including a family of 5 people.
This shot was taken in full daylight, mid afternoon and so I used a big stopper to give me the long exposure.
