Photographer's Note

This is a remarkable-looking cathedral of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (i.e. Mormons) located in Indepenedence, MO, just a it outside of Kansas City. Also the home of President Harry S. Truman.

Joseph Smith founded the LDS church in Fayette, NY on 04-06-1830. Due to persecution, he and his followers first moved to Kirtland, OH, then to Independence, MO, which Smith called Zion, the center of God's earthly kingdom. Next, the church moved to Nauvoo, IL where Joseph and his brother were killed by a vigilante mob in 1844.

(Coincidentally, I'm not certain when this actual cathedral was constructed.)
