Photographer's Note

This is a general view of Houston Metro as of this morning, Saturday 09-24-2005, after the landfall of Hurricane Rita at Sabina Pass, some 100 miles NE of Houston.

Please let me use this space to answer to Houstonians who are away from town that they are not allowed to return yet. In Houston, tree branches are down and power is out in some places, but the city is not flooded. There was little rain here and there, may be not enough to wet your shirt.

If you are planning the return, please figure out:

1.- If police block your primary route, you should know the alternative back-roads and having your maps handy.

2.- If Texas Rangers block your alternative back-roads, you should have enough gas to withdraw and back out.

3.- Call ahead your relatives who still in Houston to physically come to your residence to verify electric availability before you hit the road. You may already have experienced life without power but please consider the challenge to your children or aged relatives.

4.- All markets are closed. All gas stations were closed. If you return, you should prepare your own food and gas, even though Hurricane Rita failed to significantly damage the nation's largest oil refinery and about 200 other facilities near Houston, TX. It was feared that RITA would hinder the national fuel infrastructure, forcing gasoline and other fuel prices higher.

5.- Again, damage to Houston in general is from none to light. No flood. Please take the president’s advice, to follow local authorities’ orders, instead of getting locked on the way, or trapped back home.

Texas Governor ordered evacuees from some areas not to return home until officials say it's safe. "Evacuees who attempt to enter disaster areas will be turned back."

Sincerely,

ngoc-son
