Sierra Nevada

Technically speaking, this photo might not be of the highest quality as it was taken from a fast moving car (hence the blurry foreground) somewhere along U.S. Route 395 in Owens Valley between Bishop and Lone Pine, just north of the town of Independence (the map view is pretty accurate). The photo was taken at 8.50 am, when we were on our way to Death Valley. The mountains seen here are part of the mighty Sierra Nevada mountain range, not far from Mount Whitney, which is the highest point in the contiguous United States (4,421m). Later that day, we would visit the lowest point in North America as well, which is only 122km from the highest point.
