Photographer's Note

This is another of the exceptionally bright yellow aspen from this autumn. The atmosphere was very clear, more than normal. So the early morning light was a little more harsh than usual, but it made for a rich deep blue sky.

I could have easily spent the morning just staring at the trees, and listening to the birds, rather than concentrating on photographing.

In photographing I chose to use a polarizing filter, not so much to deepen the values of the sky, but to kill some of the scintillating highlights from the direct sun that were disturbing on the leaves.

I did underexpose this image a little, about -0.7 stops, this placed the bright yellow at about zone 6, to build a little saturation in the capture. In post processing, I used The Gimp to scale and crop, and a little USM after the scaling.

I am tempted to re-render this image controlling the perspective, to give it a more static look.
