Burnside Bridge

I have already shown quite a few bridges in Portland, all spanning the Willamette River, but not the one we used most frequently to reach downtown Portland. This is a photo of Burnside Bridge and one of its iconic towers.

Burnside Bridge is a bascule bridge, built in 1926 and designed by Ira G. Hedrick and Robert E. Kremers. It carries Burnside Street, one of the busiest streets in the city, and 40,000 cars use the bridge daily. It was the first Willamette bridge which was designed with the help of an architect, which resulted in the two towers in Italian Renaissance style.
