Photographer's Note

A Volcanic Dike of the Ruby Range west of Crested Butte, Colorado during Autumn. The rock formations are from volcanic eruptions along a fissure. The area is along Kebler Pass Road, home to one of the largest Aspen forests on Earth.

I took this photo this past Autumn, I was just a few days late for peak colors. I had just gotten back from 8 months in South Carolina so I had missed the best part of the fall colors, but this area of Kebler Pass was definitely colorful enough for a stop. Sad that fall colors in Colorado are such a fleeting moment and a different of one day can make or break a photo.

There is a highly recommended camping area just below the Dike and the Ruby Mountains (out of shot to the left) on the other side of where I took this. it is at Lake Irwin about 2 miles off of the summit of Kebler Pass.
Currently the road is closed for the season probably under 20 feet of snow, come summer this region is also considered the wildflower capital of Colorado. I sure can't wait. I will be posting more from this region in the following days as it is one of my favorite locations
