Photographer's Note

This is the Fourteenth of Twenty Four of my Grand Canyon Series.

This is another beautiful and interesting view along the South Rim. The rock layers you see here, the one on top or what they call the "cap rock"is of Kaibab Limestone were deposited about 270 million years ago. The very bottom rock exposed at the bottom of the canyon are gneiss and schist, date as far back as 1.84 billion years ago. Geologists estimate that earth is 4.55 billion years old. The eologic story of the Grand Canyon is much richer in detail and mystery. At the Grand Canyon they give free ranger classes to move you from wonder to comprehension.
