Photographer's Note

so, with the andy warhol series, i want to explain a little bit of what i learned at the exhibit, because i have to admit he's a little bit of a mystery to me. i've read a little bit trying to understand him, then i immediately forget and am still perplexed by what his point was. these soup cans especially confuse me. i know it was something about taking everyday objects and something something something.

there was a lot of explanation at this exhibit and what i came away with was the idea that andy warhol was trying to show that while we all can see the same thing (example being the soup cans) we all view that in the context of all our past experiences, leaving us each with a completely different effect/impact. You might look at this display of soup cans and remember your childhood and your mother making you soup when you were sick, while for me it may evoke a memory of going to my aunt’s house who would always make me eat pea soup which I hated (I just made that up). It challenges you to stop and look at everyday objects and how they fit into the person that you are.

“Like to take a cement fix
Be a standing cinema
Dress my friends up just for show
See them as they really are
Put a peephole in my brain
Two New Pence to have a go
I'd like to be a gallery
Put you all inside my show

Andy Warhol looks a scream
Hang him on my wall
Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all

Andy walking, Andy tired
Andy take a little snooze
Tie him up when he's fast asleep
Send him on a pleasant cruise (hm hm hm)
When he wakes up on the sea
He sure to think of me and you
He'll think about paint and he'll think about glue
What a jolly boring thing to do

Andy Warhol looks a scream
Hang him on my wall
Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all

Andy Warhol looks a scream
Hang him on my wall
Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all”
