The East Wing
Designing a modern museum is a major challenge for an architect.
It is a building that you can bring fame and establish your name. But the function of the building must not be forgotten by the ambitions of the architect.
The exhibited art cannot be secondary to the grandeur of the building.
A good architect will look for a design in which the building shows art from its best side and where the building becomes more beautiful due to the displayed art.
The famous architect I.M Pei has certainly succeeded in this assignment when designing the modern East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
The heart of the building is a huge Skylit Atrium with a beautiful spatial frame ceiling made up of a number of trapezoidal glass pyramids.

Hello Rob,
With increasing age I sometimes have certain problems of loss of balance and dizziness. This photo gives me a minor attack of vertigo. It is a fascinating building, but it makes me wonder if I could walk across that floor without looking seriously drunk. Of course it's only your composition and cropping that causes me that feeling of uneasiness, so my compliments for such a nastily clever photo. The Calder piece looks like it found a good home.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Rob,
Well designed buildings can be so attractive and can become visited works of art. I suppose it is in the interest of the viewer whether the building is more interesting or the art is more interesting. As a good combination ... they will be difficult to beat!
I love the design of the part of the museum that you have photographed.
My favourite has to be the ◄ The Ceiling and Calder ► which suits my sort of composition but, that does not mean that I don't like the others. Three very well taken and interesting photographs depicting the museum's design.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour, cher Rob,

Goed foto werk Rob, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

Hi Rob,
The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the atrium of the National Gallery of Art East Wing. The light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

Dear Rob,
Its a nice abstract, its beyond question and your choice was obvious from the three photos. On the other hand I would have converted this into BW as the colours don't give much to the overall composition.
Best Wishes,

Bonjour Rob,

Hello Rob,
I.M. Pei certainly succeeded here. All of the angles and shapes are fascinating, and your presentation is great, too. I like the location of the two people in the frame. Very nice. :-)

Hello Rob, my neighbour today. Also here I was with Bulent. I remember well this museum and especially the red Calder. There are very good museums in DC and as I remember most of them were free (I liked it!). I visited some. Have you been in the less known Newseum? It was very interesting.
I was in Washington DC when the trees were blooming. See
The East Wing in spring.

Hello Rob
The 2 people in the top left corner add a good focal point to the shot. Excellent sharpness and wonderful repetition of all the geometric shapes, mostly triangles. Tfs!

Hello Rob, I like this point of view which emphasises the strong design of this building.
The many lines, shapes and dark areas make an intriguing picture.
The presence of the two men provide the scale reference.
The extra shots add to our experience of the museum through your eyes.
Regards Jean.

Hallo Rob,
Heel mooi gedaan!
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Rob,
great series of photos again.
The main upload is my favourite among them.
I like the confusing at first design.
There is so much going on. The geometry is fantastic.
The two people having a chat add so much to the composition.
Excellent capture,

Hi Rob
I have to say, a large reason why i visit museums is for the museum itself - most times its a very unique design with many photo opps. Here is a perfect example of that. its cliche to say, but its important to have the 2 people in the frame, helps to put the scene together for our brains to understand it :)
You show us 3 cool shots of this place, it would certainly be a spot i'd see if and when I ever visit this city. funky, i like it. cheers
