Photographer's Note

Pride Month just ended, and Independence Day is almost here, so I thought I would share a photo that bridges both events. :-)

This year’s Pride celebration commemorated fifty years since the birth of the modern gay rights movement in the USA. In 1969, after years of being harassed by police, patrons at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar and now a National Historic Landmark in Greenwich Village, fought back. This year NYC was also the host of World Pride, with visitors from around the globe. The annual parade attracted millions of spectators.

Since the parade was passing by Union Square, a spot where I frequently hang out, I took my camera and tried to capture some of the festivities. There were too many people for me to actually get close to the parade itself, but the rainbow flag was everywhere. These two gentlemen combined pride and patriotism, and I couldn’t help but notice their colorful clothes. :-)

In the WS are two more views related to the Pride celebrations.
