RING - TAILED COATI

Distribution:
South West USA, Mexico, Central America, N.E. South America.

Food:
Berries, mushrooms, insects, snails, frogs, lizards, mice.

Data:
They usually live in forested areas, where they spend most of the day exploring for food on the ground. Their long and flexible nose is dense with sensory receptors, giving the animals an acute sense of smell. They are very sociable and live in groups of up to 25 or more, comprising mostly females, who are visited regularly by solitary males.
The species is quite common in its range.

The picture was taken in Attica Park, in Spata.
