Photographer's Note

This arrangement of windows and shutters with their shadows caught my eye on the Cours Mirabeau, one of the main streets in Aix-en-Provence. The faded writing below indicates it was once a hat shop.

Aix-en-Provence is a city and commune in the south of France, some 30 kilometres (19 miles) north of Marseille. It is in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cte d'Azur, in the dpartement of Bouches-du-Rhne, of which it is a subprefecture. The population is approximately 143,000.; its inhabitants are called Aixois or, less commonly, Aquisextains.
