Photographer's Note

I continue my small serie of Mexican shots (I repeat, taken with a "one use" camera).

This place surrounded by a Mural, holds inside a Cahedral, a Conventry and a Chapel.
Here you can see this place from outside, enlighten by the sunrise, with the top of the Mural on the very foreground. There are beautiful trees and flowers inside. It is an ancient place, still appreciated nowadays, where mexicans like to go and rest for a moment.

More information about that place :
Formerly a Franciscan Monastery, Cuernavaca's imposing Cathedral - la Catedral de la Asunciσn - is situated on the corner of Hidalgo and Morelos streets only a couple of blocks from the town square, or zσcalo. Mariachi masses are held at the Cathedral on Sundays at 11 a.m. Construction of the Cathedral was begun in 1533 under the supervision of Cortez. The courtyard includes an open chapel, from which the friars preached to the indigenous peoples and performed mass marriages. The open chapel was dedicated by the Spanish to Saint Joseph. Franciscan monastery. Felipe de Jesus (Philip of Jesus), Mexico's first martyr and saint who was crucified in 1596, along with 26 other friars, by Japanese Emperor Hideyoshi, is memorialized in a series of Japanese-style frescos in the Cathedral, which were uncovered in 1950 during renovation work done in the 1960΄s.

About Cuernavaca :
Capital of Morelos, one of Mexico's smallest states, Cuernavaca has been known for centuries as the City of the Eternal Spring.
The name Cuernavaca stems from nαhuatl word "Cuauhnαhuac" meaning "near the trees".

With an altitude of 1542 meters (5059 feet), Cuernavaca's climate is mild with warm, sunny days and cool nights.

The City of the Eternal Spring boasts of palatial houses hidden behind their high walls and year-round blossoming vegetation and sub-tropical gardens. It is located only about 45 minutes drive from Mexico City over an excellent toll highway.

Cuernavaca is located in a small state rich with archeological ruins and haciendas, impressive scenery and natural spas. The opportunity for interesting side trips are many, all being within only a couple of hours drive, at most, from the capital.

Cuernavaca is renown for its excellent language schools, many of which offer cultural activities and programs extending far beyond regular Spanish language courses.
