Photographer's Note

The position of this colonnade was intended to isolate the civic/religious events taking place in the Plaza of the Thousand Columns. The sequence of construction indicates there were two distinct phases. In the first, four vaulted bays supported by columns were erected - their stucco walls covered with multi-coloured painting. In the second, the two eastern bays were enclosed so as to permit the construction of rooms on a second floor. It dates from the period 900 - 1200 CE.
