Photographer's Note

Now that i have your attention, yes...this Newfoundland little town is actually called Dildo.

As for the name Dildo...the original source is still not known, but the going theory is its named after a Spanish Sailor who founded the area centuries ago.
But its varied, and not official.
The town has had petitions/votes to legally change its name, and apparently this may be formalized in the next year or so with the government.

Dildo's main source of economy today is tourism, with plenty of B&B's, while counting on its picturesque scenery to draw people in. As with most small newfoundland towns, the fishing industry was its main source of economy, but its now failing due to over fishing.

Its history is rich, with artifacts being dated way back to 2000 BC, of the Beothuk Aboriginals.
Dildo was officially settled in around the early 1600's. This little town has suffered the same fate as alot of smaller towns, when it was burned down Again, by the French in the 1700's.

The French also burned down the towns of Brigus and Trinity...seen in my previous posts of newfoundland.
I'm not sure what the French have against us! We're nice people :)

Hope you like this natural evening pre-sunset shot.
Cheers
