Photographer's Note

A misty morning with fields of stubble in the Abbotsford area, a region in the central Fraser Valley traditionally known for its huge production of quality raspberries and dairy production. The quiet is deceiving. This field lies only a few miles from the heart of the city of Abbotsford proper, one of the fastest growing urban areas in Canada.

Some one third of all British Columbians live in the Fraser Valley, which has changed from primarily a landscape of small farms to a bustling suburb of Vancouver. Some 2.5 million hectares of rich alluvial land lie in the Valley, more than half of which is lost to development. Only 7000 out of 45000 acres of wetlands remain intact for bird habitat. Thankfully there are still a few small corners of peace such as these fields lying on a dead end farm road, where one can still enjoy the morning quietude.
