Photographer's Note

The Yeni Mosque, New Mosque or Mosque of the Valide Sultan (Turkish: 'Yeni Cami, Yeni Valide Camii') is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in the Eminφnό district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is situated on the Golden Horn at the southern end of the Galata Bridge. It is one of the best-known sights of Istanbul.

The exterior of the mosque itself boasts sixty-six domes and semi domes in a pyramidal arrangement, as well as two minarets. The main dome measures thirty-six meters in height, and is supported by four flanking semi-domes. The dome plan of the New Mosque is based on the earlier Sinan's Şehzade Mosque and Sedefhar Mehmet Ağa's Sultan Ahmed Mosque.

As with other imperial mosques in Istanbul, the mosque itself is preceded by a monumental courtyard (avlu) on its west side. The courtyard at the New Mosque is 39 meters on a side, bordered on its inner side by a colonnaded peristyle covered by 24 small domes. An elegant sadirvan (ablution fountain) stands in the center, but is only ornamental, as the ritual purifications are performed with water taps on the south wall of the mosque. The faηade of the mosque under the porch is decorated with İznik tiles. Stone blocks supplied from the island of Rhodes were used in the construction of the mosque.

Hello Salvator,
A great POV to show the Yeni Mosque, the Golden Horn and the other bank. The colours are also very beautiful and I like how those white minarets rise up in that blue sky.
Sixty-six domes and semi domes ! Wow, fantastic, and indeed we see some of them at two sides of the mosque and in a pyramidal arrangement as you described.

Beautiful, the mosque illuminated beautifully is depicted with a silky tone in the hour that blue remains in the sky. The minarets give a strong impact to the image though it seems they lean to the right a little.
