Photographer's Note

Another experiment with dynamic framing and getting closer to the action - I made many shots placing the person or the boat in different parts of the frame or concentrating on a particular shape or part of the action - I like this one because I think it gives the viewer the opportunity (with imagination) to see the top hand come down into the frame and make the stroke or steer as the boat moves down - the next action or frame brings both paddle and upper hand into the frame thus for me giving more of a sense of the moment and the movement.

The remarkable English photographer and master printer John Blakemore was responsible for this particular obsession I have for exploring more dynamic framing!

Another shot from the UK Olympic team final selection event, in this case for the women's events, in Nottingham. The orginally conceived black and white version is in the workshop.
