Photographer's Note
I Originally titled this image "PROGRESS".. maybe it is more apt? and I will tell you why later!!!
In parks, public meeting places around the world we see the appearance of more and more flat screen TV screens- Are these now new places to be "entertained"?
In my day (showing my age) Parks were places for relaxation, quietness, beauty and social gatherings with friends and family !
"what are we leaving our children?" how the world has changed..we are constantly being "entertained".. (Smart Phones, Tablets and now huge TV Screens - all instant stuff). what happpened to those days of our own lifestyles??
There is a second reason why I gave this image the title of "What are we leaving our children?" as in what did our forefather leave us? just have a look at the wonderful architecture.. statues of the Visctorian era compared to the ghastly modern TV screen.. ( Need I say any more ??)
Now why Progress?
The irony of this image is that on the plaque on the bottom of the statue the Lady is holding up a banner "Progress" - have a look at the workshop.. I wonder when they erected the statue and plaque if they invisated this as PROGRESS??
Yet Northern Ireland is showing progress- wonderful progress in creating peace, breaking down old barriers and wanting a new lifestyle for the next generation. where ever I wentin Belfast, from sports men and women, to taxi drivers, to people in the street all i heard was how things have dramatically changed over the last few years in creating a more peaceful Ireland.. It is not there yet but there is good progress..
So My question again. " Is what are we leaving our Children?"

Hi, Rich,
Glad to see your photos again! How are you?
An interesting social context, I can understand your emotions and I have got a lot of similar scenes when the the new devices change or cover historical heritage, old buildings etc. Good journalist work! TFS!

Hi Rich,
very interesting note. I haven't seen anywhere the TV screens in the parks and I must say I do not like it at all. It is not so bad to have them in buses or metro, but parks?? But indeed, the people can't live without tablets and iPhones, they prefer them to real world.
nice photo in excellent composition and colours.
Regards MAlgo

Hi Rich!
Surely a great shot to make us think for a while! Many curious details here, as you mentioned. And it's funny that the persons that are not facing the screen are playing with mobiles. Seems most part of the people cannot even enjoy these places anymore. Very well seen and captured. And a very good note, too!
