Photographer's Note

Last Winter was very strange in Grindelwald, as there was no snow at all in the village. None what so ever - and that for all Winter long.

This is very unusual for a place situated more than 1.000 meters (3.000 feet) above sea level in the Swiss Alps. A place closely linked with the eternal snow of Eigergletscher and Jungfraujoch.

And suddenly the "endless pistes and runs for skiers, snowboarders and sledgers" stopped somewhere on the mountainside at Brandegg. Where we all had to line up, waiting for the cogwheel trains to take us all the way down.

However on the other side of the valley the residents could enjoy a beautiful early sunny Spring. Well, most of them were holiday visitors just like me, as there are only some 4.000 residing in Grindelwald.

Global warming, or just a mere coincidence..?
