Photographer's Note

Having been set the task of photographing some more castles in the Baselbiet by Peter, I didn’t need any other excuse to take out my camera and go for a walk to the Ruine Pfeffingen. Like most of the castles in this area, it is positioned strategically on a steep outcrop with a commanding vantage point over the surrounding rolling hills of the Jura. The history of the castle is similar to that of the many others in the region: the castle was originally built in the early 11th century and was subsequently rebuilt several times and underwent various changes of ownership. Since 1941 the ruins have belonged to the Canton of Basel Land.
