Photographer's Note

The church "Santa Maria della Misericordia" in Ascona, Ticino, in southern Switzerland was built in 1399. It holds some great paintings and especially a lot of wonderful and well-preserved frescoes on the walls of the apsis, showing scenes from the Old and New Testament and of several Saints. They were created in the first half of the 15th century. I already showed you a little part of them.
The walls of the nave are only whitewashed.

The whole interior of the church was restored during the last years and at this the here shown fresco was recovered after centuries under the plaster. What could have been the reason for plastering such a wonderful artwork ...?
